Richard Carter

'I realised that I could either hold my hands up and say all politicians are the same, or I could try to do something about it'

Richard is the leader and one of the three co-founders of Yorkshire First.

Richard believes that the region should come before party, with more of a voice for Yorkshire in the world, not less. Having lived abroad in Oslo, he says he realised his region was well-known but was being short-changed in terms of its influence.

The EU elections gave life to Yorkshire First. Just seven weeks after their launch they achieved 19017 votes, 1.5% of the vote. That was higher than the SNP, Plaid, The Greens and Ukip received in their first elections, and the party has no major party funders or backers.
