'You have to be bold, you have to be courageous and go for it.'

Emily is Labour’s 2015 candidate for Sutton Central. She has extensive experience in campaigning for equality and human rights on a local and national level, and is passionate about improving living standards for people with disabilities.

In December, she spoke publicly for the first time about being a transgender woman, the first to stand for Parliament.

Brothers, who lost her sight as a child to glaucoma, is a former policy head at the Equality and Human Rights Commission and a former President of the National Federation of the Blind.

She has been a clear voice on the need for more people with disability and with transgender experience to be part of public life and debate, and the drive she feels to take on that role.
